A team of students from the Virginia Tech is proving that the blind can also drive.
How?
All you need are audio instructions and vibrating gloves (called DriveGrip) and of course a lot of computing power.
A team of students from Virginia Tech took up a challenge from the National Federation of the Blind.
They built a buggy that in conjunction with proximity sensors, and a blind driver with vibrating gloves and audio instructions and of course a computer allows those with limited vision to drive like a F1 racers.
OK, perhaps not quit like a race car driver, but in this video below you'll see that the they do pretty well given the complete lack of a driving eye dog.
