The Golf R is back for the 2015 model year on top of the Mk7 Golf platform. It is the most powerful Golf R ever. How fast is it in the hands of the IndyCar racing driver, Justin Wilson? We had to find out.
The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder makes 292 horsepower @ 5,400 rpm and 280 lb-ft of torque @ 1,800 rpm. This car has the 6-speed DSG automatic transmission that send power to the Haldex 5 equipped 4Motion all wheel drive. A 6-speed manual transmission will be available later.
It only comes as a four-door and curb weight is a controllable 3,340 pounds.
The latest Golf R comes in two configurations: the base model you see here, and the car with 19-inch wheels, adjustable DCC damping system, navigation, fender audio system and other goodies. The base model goes out the door at $37,415. The upper model is at $39,910.
Also, this Golf R sports a Reflex Silver Metallic exterior, which is not a production color. This is a pre-production car.
