The 2015 Subaru WRX Premium is all-new with a stiffer chassis, new 6-speed manual transmission, and a new 2.0-liter twin-scroll turbocharged direct-injected four-cylinder that all make for a car that’s a heck of a lot of fun to drive.
They’ve redone everything so the 2015 Subaru WRX Premium looks different inside and out, but the big change is in how it drives and it’s a change for the good. It sports the fourth-generation of Subaru’s all-wheel-drive and has a stiffer chassis along with a new 6-speed manual transmission paired to that new engine. An automatic is available, but why anyone would pass on this beautiful 6-speed is a mystery.
It is clearly performance focused with nice short throws that snap right into place. The 2015 Subaru WRX Premium will take you from 0-60 MPH in 5.4 seconds and put a grin on your face in the process. Steering is tight and precise with good responsiveness and excellent weighting, but the bulk of the thanks for its performance goes to the new engine.
That engine is a 2.0-liter twin-scroll turbocharged Subaru Boxer direct-injected four-cylinder with 268 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Peak torque comes in from just 2,000 to 5,200 rpms thanks to special camshafts and higher-rate valve springs designed to improve performance. This puts the torque just where you want it, when you want it, making for an exhilarating drive.
What does all this translate to in normal, everyday human words? This car is fun. It will get your heart pumping and your pulse racing and make you feel like you can take on that Ferrari next to you at that stop light. Of course, you can’t, but you’ll feel like you could if it happened and that’s what matters.
How you feel when you drive a car is why car enthusiasts are enthusiasts in the first place, and the 2015 Subaru WRX Premium is, undoubtedly, a car for people who like to drive cars. Take the keys, start that engine, and get ready to have some fun.
