Here is another very detailed look at the upcoming 2021 Ford “Baby Bronco” prototype, also referred to as Adventurer or Maverick. This is a look at the rear of the vehicle, and we have a clear view of the dual exhaust system, the hitch, tires, and a very unique camouflage wrap.

2021 Ford “Baby Bronco”

We don’t have much official information from Ford about this compact off-road focused crossover, but this additional image of the prototype sheds more light on the subject.

The information we have suggests that the upcoming Ford “Baby Bronco” Adventurer will be based on the same architecture and platform as the all-new 2020 Ford Escape that goes on sale soon.

Engines

The new 2020 Ford Escape will have several engine options and an available dual exhaust system. This prototype has a dual exhaust system as well, which may mean it has a 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbo (250 hp) four-cylinder engine under the hood. This may be too much power for the small off-road crossover, so a 1.5-liter EcoBoost turbo (180 hp) three-cylinder engine may be more likely. Of course, it’s also possible that the “Baby Bronco” will also have a gas/electric hybrid or plug-in hybrid powertrains from the 2020 Escape as well.

Towing

The new 2020 Escape comes with a 2-inch hitch receiver and up to 3,500 lbs of towing capability with the 2.0-liter EcoBoost. We do not know how Ford will rate the “Baby Bronco” for towing ability. Although, the 2-inch hitch will be very useful for accessories such as a bike rack, snowboard or ski rack, etc.

Rear Glass Hatch

A closer look at the rear hatch on this prototype shows a handle around the rear window wiper that suggests that the rear glass may open separately. Is it a rear glass hatch? If this is the case, it would be a very unique and useful feature in this crossover segment. Naturally, the main rear hatch handle is down below by the rear bumper.

Camouflage

Speaking of bicycling, snowboarding, and the outdoor lifestyle. The camouflage wrap on this prototype has little icons of people hiking, sledding, camping, biking, climbing, and more.

Tires

Finally, we get a close look at the tires. They are Falken Wildpeaks A/T – all terrain tires. This is a fairly aggressive all-terrain tires for light off-roading. A very similar tire has been used on several Jeep crossovers.
