We have the new Wrangler JL at our base, and are answering your questions!
Here at TFLcar, we were thrilled to get our hands on the 2018 Jeep Wrangler to test after its official launch earlier this month. We just brought the new model back from Phoenix to our base in Boulder, Colorado. Specifically, we have a 2018 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited with the venerable 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 and an eight-speed automatic transmission. A new Wrangler doesn’t come along every day (it’s been 11 years since its predecessor, the JK, debuted). To that end, we’ve been on hand to find out just how much the Wrangler JL has improved over the old one.
For those who haven’t seen our coverage of the new Wrangler’s debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, here are the major points. The Wrangler JL is all-new for the 2018 model year. It will go on sale shortly, with prices starting from $28,190 for a base two-door Sport (including destination charges). There are four trim options – Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon. If you want all the bells and whistles, your Jeep will get fairly pricey – over $57,000 if you spec up a Rubicon all the way. The only engine available when it first goes on sale will be the one Wrangler fans know well – a 3.6 liter Pentastar V6. In the JL, that unit puts out 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. You’ll be able to order it with a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic.
A few months from now, Jeep will sell the new Wrangler with a 2.0-liter turbo option (270 horsepower/295 lb-ft torque). In 2019, you’ll be able to buy a Wrangler with a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine. Finally, FCA is planning a plug-in hybrid version for sale in 2020.
Wrangler Q&A Session in collaboration with JLWranglerForums
TFLcar collaborated with JLWranglerForums to produce a live show and tell stream on TFLnow to answer all your questions (or at least as many as we could get to) about the new Jeep Wrangler. While we didn’t have time to get to all your questions, never fear! We’ll be hosting another livestream next week. Check back to TFLnow Thursday, December 28 at 1 PM Pacific (4 PM Eastern) for more answers to your questions!
