Wagons have never quite gained the popularity in America that they have in Europe. However, that doesn’t mean that we have foregone the need for practicality in our cars. If you are looking for the practicality of a hatchback, but the style of a sedan, Audi may have the car for you. Audi used the 2016 LA Auto Show to debut the all new 2018 Audi A5/S5 Sportback 5-Door. This sportback design offers the smooth, flowing lines of a sedan, while still having the space and utility of a hatchback.
The A5 and S5 sportback models come with the recent refresh of the A4, offering A4 customers a different, more practical option that still maintains the the looks of a sedan. Like the A4 and S4, there are two engine options. The first, which comes on the A4/5, is a 2.0L turbocharged four cylinder that makes 252 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. If you opt for the S model you get bumped up to an all-new 3.0L turbocharged V6 354 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, allowing the S5 to reach 60 in a brisk 4.5 seconds. In the A5 you get a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox, while in the S5 you receive an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Pricing hasn’t been released for the sportback models yet, although a good guideline would be around $45,000 for the A5 and $55,000 for the S5.
