In the market for a 4-door family sedan with Japanese reliability but can’t come to terms with the thought of rolling through the ‘burbs in a Camry or Accord? Nissan may have the answer for you in the all new 2016 Altima. Roman Mica recently caught up with Nissan Marketing Manager Eric Lediew to get the low-down on this latest offering from the company.

According to Lediew, the new Nissan Altima sports a full redesign inside and out. Look familiar? That may be because the car shares its grill with its big brother – the Maxima – and continues Nissan’s current design motif known as “Energetic Flow Design.” We’re not exactly sure what “Energetic Flow” is but it may explain the new Altima’s improved aerodynamics. According to Lediew, the coefficient of drag has decreased from .29 to .26, resulting in a pretty slippery design. This no doubt helped achieve the claimed fuel economy rating of 39 mpg (presumably highway).

“Huge amounts of technology” have also been added to the new Nissan, including intelligent cruise control and predictive forward braking technology, which enables the car to sense when the car in front of the car in front of you is braking… saving precious moments during an impending collision. Motivation for the car is provided by the same 2.5L I-4 or 3.5L V6 matched to a CVT with “de-step logic” designed to simulate a traditional automatic.

The 2016 Altima will begin shipping to dealers mid-November with a starting price of $22,500 and escalate north of $31k when fully loaded. TFLcar will be driving the all new Altima next week with a video following shortly thereafter. In the meantime check out Roman’s interview with Eric Lediew shot at the Miami International Auto Show below!
