BMW has released official images of the upcoming 2015 BMW M235i and 228i coupes. Yep, the 1-series coupe is no more in United States. The new 2-series takes its place. The small coupe naming convention continues on the theme set by the new 4-series coupe. The 2-series grows a little in size over the 1-series: 1.3 inches wider and 4 inches longer. Again – wider is better.
The entry level coupe is still rear wheel drive and uses familiar powerplants. The 228i has the 2.0-liter turbo four with 240 horsepower, while the M235i uses a tweaked 3.0-liter turbocharged straight six with 322 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. The “M” prefix is interesting. Could this car be a successor to the famed 1M coupe? The information says that the M235i has M specific chassis tuning with adaptive suspension, M-spec brakes, and Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. It also has more aggressive exterior appearance and M badges throughout. This high performance 2-series is said to weigh in at just over 3,200 lbs and be capable of 4.8 second 0-60 mph sprints. Nice!
Both the 8-speed automatic and the 6-speed manual will be available, as well as the new touch iDrive infotainment controller.
