2013 NY Auto Show: Refreshed 2014 Dodge Durango gets More Manly

Now this is what the new Durango should have always looked like.

Dodge revealed this teaser image for the refreshed 2014 Dodge Durango crossover.  It will be fully unveiled at the 2013 New York Auto Show next week.  This image clearly shows that the face-lifted Durango continues on the stylish rear light design started by the Charger and the Dart.  It makes this capable vehicle look more aggressive and more manly.  It also has a resemblance to the refreshed 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which is a good thing.  Personally, I am not a huge fan of the tail light look of the current Dodge Durango.  Every other angle looks attractive, but the current design of the rear looks too tall and reminds me of a minivan.  I am glad Dodge addressed the rear styling.

We do not know many other details about the 2014 Durango yet.  It’s safe to assume that the existing V6 and V8 engine will continue to serve in the 2014 model.  It’s very likely that the 8-speed automatic transmission will be introduced to address the performance and fuel economy objectives.  Also, there could be a surprise in a form of a 3.0 liter Eco Diesel from the just introduced Grand Cherokee.  I really hope that Dodge was able to pull this off, as it would be a game changer in the segment.  The diesel would provide class leading towing capability and also leading economy and driving range.  None of the competitors would have an answer to a diesel Durango for some time.

While we wait for a full reveal, please enjoy this Dodge Durango mashup video:
