Monster Ride: Will Tajima’s Electric Car set the new Pikes Peak Hill Climb record?

Monster Tajima’s EV Ride

Nobuhiro Monster Tajima is the fastest man ever to race to the top of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

Last year he set the course record when he stormed up the mountain breaking the 10 minute barrier with a time of 9:51.

This year Monster Tajima is back but he’s driving this all electric car.

In fact there are seven EV’s entered in the race this year including THIS bone stock Mitsubishi i-MiEV driven by Beccy Gordon.

Can this EV beat a 1400 horsepower race car?

So can an electric car beat THIS 1400 HP race car driven by Paul Dallenbach?

Time will tell but both cars are certainly more functional than beautiful.

The good news is that the 2012 Pikes Peak Hill Climb might just be the perfect race for electric cars since unlike their gasoline powered cousins, electric cars don’t lose power with altitude.

In fact, at just about 12 miles in total length the 90th annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is short enough that the limited range of a electric car is not a factor.
