First robot marathoners…how long before robot drivers take wheel in Japan?

Somehow it just seems like if you had a pick a place to hold the first ever Robot Marathon… Japan would be that place.

About a half a dozen knee-high robots are in the process of running 423 circuits of a track in a big room in Osaka, Japan today.

The first ever robot marathon (26.2 miles) is called the Robomarafull and is expected to take until Sunday to complete.

If you watch the video below of the start of the race you’ll note that perhaps it should be called the Robomarafall, but suppose that robots first have to learn to get-up before they can run. They seem to spend a lot of time falling down.

Unlike IBM’s computer Watson, that recently easily beat the best human contestants humans in the game show Jeopardy, Paul Radcliffe and Haile Gebrselassie have nothing to fear from these mechanical marathoners.

You can watch a live steam from the race HERE or just check out the AP video report below.
