You know how some politicians like to get on the soup box and berate the cash for clunkers program.
Some will spice up their poll numbers by bellowing about about how crucial it is to buy American…at least when it comes to cars.
Others like to defend the American way of life with such rhetoric as "you can pry the steering wheel of my SUV from my cold dead hands," or the now infamous "drill, baby, drill."
And of course there are also the politicians that like to make fun of Prius drivers as either Hollywood elitist or hippie tree huggers.
And that's why this story is so entertaining, because it exposed two retired politicians on both the right and the left as bombastic blowhards.
According to edmunds.com:
"Recently retired Sen. Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) has traded in the vehicle you might expect him to own — a 1991 Chevrolet Suburban — for a brand-new Toyota Prius under the government's just-concluded Cash for Clunkers program."
When asked about the new car purchase on Larry King on CNN Frist said, "You don't see a lot of Republicans driving a Prius."
He added the "50
miles to the gallon" convinced him to get the Toyota. That, and the
fact that "the taxpayer gave me $6,000 to do it, so I'm out there
driving my Prius." He also said, he was "very sad" that the Suburban
will be junked.
You know what's crazy? The guys who write the law don't even know what they are signing as the cash for clunkers program pays only $4500.00 at most.
But now to be outdone in the the pandering department, King's other guest, Howard Dean, got into the conversation by saying: "As a good Democrat, I'm about to do the same, but I'm going to get a Ford Escape because I like to buy American."
You are such a good American Democrat Dean it makes us all proud.
