Manufacturers have lately started looking toward car subscription as a way to get people into new models. Audi certainly isn’t the first manufacturer to offer their cars through a subscription service. However, they will add their own special amenities to the concept. The company is kicking off a pilot run of their new subscription service called Audi Select. For now, the service allows people living around the Dallas, Texas area access to a limited range of Audi models. If all goes well, Audi hopes to continue moving forward expanding the network to other regions.

How it works

In some respects, Audi Select works like many other subscription services. It’s an alternative to leasing or financing that still gets you into new cars. Access to the car, insurance and maintenance are all covered for one monthly price. In Audi’s case, that price starts at $1,395 and gives you access to five cars. You can choose from an A4 sedan, A5 convertible, S5 coupe or one of Audi’s Q5 or Q7 crossovers.

Here’s the twist: you’re able to switch cars up to twice a month. Or, if you’d prefer, you can keep any one vehicle for up to six months. Plus, you will have 24 days of free rentals through Silvercar per year. Silvercar is Audi’s car rental service that has cars in 24 major US cities including New York, Chicago, LA, Seattle and Denver.

What do you think?

Other automakers like Volvo, Mercedes and BMW are also rolling out car subscription programs. Instead of traditional financing, you can more or less rent your car on a long-term basis and switch it out. Is this kind of program enticing to you? Let us know by answering the poll below!

Would you consider getting an Audi through the Audi Select subscription service?
