Dodge revealed its plans to return to the NASCAR series with a new stock car, set to debut next month.
Along with some major shifts in its product philosophy, Dodge is set to bring the brand back to NASCAR Cup Series racing for the 2027 season. Head of Stellantis’ American brands, SRT Performance and the Direct Connection division Tim Kuniskis announced the news as part of the automaker’s SEMA display in Las Vegas, saying “slow has never been a part of Dodge DNA. LFG.” And those of us on the younger side of millennial don’t need to look up what those last three letters mean, as that’s an expression that is characteristically on-brand for company veteran Kuniskis.
Dodge had been in the NASCAR game for decades, with its first championship in the series coming way back in 1953. The last championship came with the No. 2 Blue Deuce Charger in 2012, which was the final year Dodge participated in the sport, until now. And with Ram also returning to competition, there’s a broad push to build back the manufacturer’s presence as “the next phase of the company’s commitment to American motorsports.”
Just like Ram, Dodge will make its return to the NASCAR Cup Series with Kaulig Racing, so the team will serve as the anchor for both brands’ reemergence in the massively popular sport. Under Dodge SRT Racing, the brand’s formal debut of its new Charger-based stock cars will kick off at the 59th annual Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida.
At this moment, Dodge is still holding back some details of how the new era’s inaugural season will play out. Expect to see the official livery for the NASCAR Cup Series competition car on December 4, though, where Kaulig Racing will also announce its driver lineup for the 2027 season.
Speaking of next year’s season, the 36-race schedule officially starts with the 200-lap Daytona 500 on February 21.
