Infiniti is looking to add a midsize premium SUV to that segment, which is one of the fastest growing and most competitive in the automotive industry.
During the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Infiniti unveiled its QX50 concept car. The concept came equipped with a two-liter variable compression turbo charged engine, that optimizes performance and fuel economy.
Infiniti said the VC-turbo engine is the first ever variable-compression-ratio engine. The engine produces 268 horsepower and 288 lb-ft of torque, which is comparable to a typical six-cylinder gasoline engine for performance, Infiniti indicated.
The vehicle will go up against the Volvo XC60, Mercedes GLC and the Audi Q5 if Infiniti decides to move forward with it.
Infiniti officials said the vehicle’s styling provides for a more luxury feel while the mechanical components give drivers that SUV experience.
