Automotive News reports that the next-generation Chevrolet Equinox will become smaller to make room for a new Chevrolet midsize crossover to fit in-between the Traverse and Equinox. The new Equinox will be slightly downsized compared to today’s version and will ride on GM’s D2XX global architecture shared with the new Chevrolet Volt and redesigned Cruze. The second-generation Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain have been in production since 2009 and due a major redesign. The 2015 model received a minor update to keep it competitive until the next-generation arrives.
The new smaller Equinox’s footprint will be more in line with its major competition, the Nissan Rogue, Ford Escape and Toyota RAV4.
The 2017 Chevy Equinox should hit the market by late 2016.
Not surprisingly, a 2017 Equinox prototype was caught on video by Nathan while driving around the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. Think this really a 2017 Equinox doing high altitude testing in Colorado?
