Jeep revealed seven new concept vehicles at this year’s Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, UT, and it would be safe to say that the one-off Africa concept has gotten the folks here at TFL Car all giddy with excitement.
Built with overland expeditions in mind, the Jeep Wrangler Africa has all the goodies an explorer would need for back-country adventures.
Most importantly, a 2.8L diesel engine. Many Jeep fans have been clamoring for a diesel engine to come to the States, and if any one component of this Africa concept goes into production, we hope it’s the engine.
Other modifications include a 2″ lift with Fox shocks, sway bar links, front and rear Dana 44 axles from Jeep Performance Parts, auxiliary fuel tanks, and 17″ steel wheels wearing 35″ BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tires.
You also get a high-clearance steel front bumper with winch, power step rock rails, power dome vented hood and a high-top roof.
Additionally, by moving the spare tire under the body of the Jeep, designers were able to extend the rear of the vehicle by 12″, essentially to where the spare tire used to be. This gives the Africa concept a much bigger cargo space while not increasing the footprint of the vehicle.
Nathan got a chance to drive the Africa concept and thinks its a strong competitor to the Land Rover Defender. Do you agree? Let us know in the comments!
