The 2012 Buick Verano is based in large part on the European Opel Astra. But if you were to look at the two cars side-by-side you’d have a hard time telling that they are cousins…perhaps distant cousins.
The American Verano gets a large dose of Buick’s newest DNA to keep a strong family resemblance to the Regal and LaCrosse…both inside and out. The Verano’s 2.4-liter Ecotec engine cranks out a humble 180 horsepower which is better for economy than performance getting over 30 MPG on the Highway.
The Verano drives like a quiet German sedan and that’s because under the skin it really is a quest sedan. While you can take the Astra out of Germany…you can’t take the distinctly Germanic ride and handling out of the Verano.
