For the first time in a long time, Ford will have a 4-cylinder engine in the Mustang. However, this one is a bit special. It’s a 2.3L turbocharged unit (Ford calls it EcoBoost) that could make as much as 350 hp. It’s a $1,570 premium upgrade over the 3.7L V6 base engine, and should deliver better fuel economy and more power. Sure, purists lament having a four-banger in a Mustang, but this one should definitely impress.
We’ve driven a Ford vehicle with the 2.3L EcoBoost in it, and although it’s an entirely different type of car, it does give us a small taste of what it could be like in the Mustang.
