Ford has officially announced the SAE-rated numbers for the V6, EcoBoost turbo four-cylinder, and V8 GT motors. Some of the numbers are definitely surprising. Here is a breakdown of each of the three engine options and the power that they’ll make in the 2015 Mustang. The standard V6 engine returns in 2015, but surprisingly makes less horsepower (yes, you read that right) than the version before. The version in the 2015 Mustang makes 300 hp, whereas the version in the 2014 Mustang makes 305 hp. We’re really not sure why, other than to increase the gap between the power of the V6 and the upgraded EcoBoost I4 engine. Would Ford intentionally de-tune an engine for the sake of marketing? We don’t know. It’s possible that once the 2015s hit the street the dyno will show there’s no power change, but this still leaves a sour taste in our collective mouths.
