2015 Mustang EcoBoost

The 2.3L EcoBoost turbo engine in the 2015 Mustang is rated at 310 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque. That’s definitely less than the 350 hp we had a source tell us that the car would make. It’s possible our source was misinformed, which sometimes does happen, or the EcoBoost is underrated. Turbo engines do tend to be underrated some from the manufacturer.

Recently a tuning company called EAS put a 2015 BMW M3 on their dyno and reported that the horsepower to the wheels was the same as what BMW reported at the crank. That’s roughly 15% more horsepower than what BMW says the car should make. If the same were to hold true for the 2015 Mustang, the EcoBoost could still be in the vicinity of the number our source gave us. Like the V6 version, we won’t know until someone straps the car onto a dyno.
