Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) mass during High Altitude Testing

Check out this huge fleet of vehicles via Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) massing at 12,000 feet! One of the reasons TFLCar is so effective with rapid, everyday testing is based on Colorado’s unique geographic features. What’s unusual about this collection of FCA vehicles is the addition of the FIAT Fremont, which is a re-badged Dodge Journey.

It’s possible that all of these vehicles are FCA test-mules that have different engines, transmissions and/or electronics than their in-production brethren. Many test cars have equipment/sensors on board that collects telemetry and emission information. Other testing vehicles are driven hard and later hooked up via their OBDII port to data collecting computers.

The point is, all of these sensors and data collecting components are used in Colorado for a reason: we have it all. Or at least, we have a lot. The highest highways, roads and paved back-roads are within about 30 to 45-minutes of Denver. We have long highways that top out at 75 mph. We have extreme weather that can be snowy, icy, rainy, hot and even desert-like (technically, given our dry climate and elevation, the area around Denver, CO is considered high desert.

FCA knows this, so do a multitude of competitive automakers.

There are many potential reasons why this fleet of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles are testing here. Do you have any theories? Let us know below!
