Watch The Stig Do Donuts Around a Google Street View Car

Capture

The Google Street View car may just have met its match in the form of, The Stig. The folks from Top Gear invited the Google Street View camera car on to their track to record it for mapping purposes. No, there was no other intent here at all.

Maps are an important part of our daily lives, be they the old-fashioned ones that can never be refolded properly or the ones on our phones and in-dash screens. Google is doing us a huge service because, well, just try to imagine the horror of being lost on the Top Gear track?

One could easily become confused what with Hammerhead and Gambon and those tires that always wibble-wobble when cars drive by too quickly. It’s scary stuff, but Google is on the job to make sure you finish your lap. Seriously, the track actually is a part of google maps now and you can see all the camera’s footage.

Oh, and because a Google Street View camera car, though quirky and odd, is rather slow and boring, they brought The Stig along to keep him company. They also gave The Stig a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. This is a slightly speedier car than the one Google brought to the track.

There’s great footage of The Stig blazing past the Google car, but they save the best for last. As the poor, never had a chance in this race, Google car comes to a stop, The Stig starts doing donuts.

Now, if not for the fact that The Stig has no emotions, I’d imagine him inside that Mercedes-Benz saying something along the lines of, “Boo-yah, take that Google and your fancy camera! This is my track and I own you!”

I suspect that, in reality, it was the Google driver saying, “Hell yes! This is the best job ever!” as The Stig spins his smokey donuts.

Here’s The Stig in all his glory…

And our much, much, much tamer driver – The Roman – in the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E350 Coupe…
