First Drive: 2010 Volvo C70 likes to tease but does it deliver that fun-in-the-sun-factor?

Volvo1

The 2010 Volvo C70 is such a tease.  It looks all innocent and safe and Volvoey.  Then, with the push of a button it turns into a fun, summertime convertible.  Then, just as it gets too hot, up the top goes, covering up and transforming back into its more conservative self.

Over the course of a week, the novelty of the retractable hard top never wore off.  While we were most comfortable with the top down in the mornings and evenings, it certainly had its fair share of hot July lunch hours with it’s roof retracted.

What I liked the most is that the C70 is not a one-trick pony.  Yes, the hardtop is the most obvious talking point.  But the T5 engine and grippy handling are definitely worth a mention.  Combined, it makes for a fantastic family fun car.

But does the two-door situation wear on the family after a while?  Would ease and simplicity eventually wear down the fun-factor?
