All regarding the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 will be revealed in the coming weeks.
For the past five years, we’ve been waiting for the top-dog variant of the C8 Corvette to blast its way onto the scene. We’re almost there, as GM once again teased the ZR1 with more noise made to make those who can afford it shout “shut up and take my money!”, even before its made the full debut. As you’d expect, the V8 engine still sounds glorious, though exactly what’s coming down the pike remains a mystery, at least until later in the summer.
One detail we can see is the center-mounted exhaust. That follows up the Z06, and more or less confirms the ZR1 will get a boosted version of the 5.5-liter V8 mounted midships (as opposed to the Stingray and E-Ray’s 6.2-liter naturally aspirated powerplants). Again, specific design details and differences from the Z06, including overall power output, remain to be seen. Rumors up to this point suggest the ZR1 will put out at least 800 horsepower, and it definitely needs to clear the benchmark laid down by the C7 ZR1, which put out 755 horsepower.
The split-second rear-end shot shows an absolutely gigantic rear wing, in addition to the center exhaust. Of course, even without seeing it in its entirety, it’s clear the ZR1 will be a track machine unlike any C8 Corvette we’ve seen so far. Fortunately, we’ll learn more “this summer”, and Chevy will undoubtedly continue teasing its most hardcore model until then.
