We went searching for Chevy prototypes in the high country of the Colorado Rockies and came across what might possibly be the 2018 Opel Insignia (aka Buick Regal). Take a close look at this TFLcar video and let us know if you think we really caught a 2018 Insignia/Regal prototype on camera.
The Buick Regal will retain is traditional sedan shape for the U.S. and China markets while the Opel Insignia assumes a fastback silhouette for the European crowd. The Regal redesign is probably around 18 months from hitting showrooms. Industry sources expect it in mid-2017 for the 2018 model year.
Speculation is that the new Regal will be built on the same global sedan platform that serves as the foundation for the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu, which has a wheelbase nearly 4 inches longer than the version it replaced. Sharing the same platform is the Opel Insignia, which is expected to debut around the same time as the Regal.
If the 2016 Malibu is a good size indicator, the new Regal will be significantly longer over the current model, with possibly a generous amount of space allocated to rear seat legroom.
Buick is progressing with their plans to roll out new product after a three-year quiet spell. The Cascada convertible went on sale last month. The Envision compact crossover and redesigned LaCrosse launch this summer, likely followed next year by a redesigned Enclave mid-size crossover, and the redesigned Regal.]
