It’s good to go wild once in a while. Start with a clean sheet and design a car that brings fantasy into reality. The BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage concept had to satisfy several criteria, so its design sheet was not all blank to begin with, but the result is radical. Just take a look at those front fenders and the flowing rear end.
There are some styling hints from the current M4 in the front and the i8 in the back.
This concept pay homage to the original CSL from the 1970s. It’s all about light-weight technology and focus on track performance. It’s basically a racing car for the street. Where as the original relied on aluminum, the Hommage car relies on carbon-fiber reinforced plastics.
BMW was very careful not to discuss the power train of the 3.0 CSL Hommage. However, they did say that there is a powerful inline six-cylinder power plant with eBoost. That’s all we know. Basically, it means that this is a gas-electric hybrid. The BMW i8 uses a three-cylinder turbocharged motor, so the combined performance from the six-cylinder should be a lot higher. As the name suggests, the engine should displace 3.0-liters.
Check out the interior. It’s all business.
