The 2014 BMW i8 brings the promise of an efficient and fast sports car to reality at the 2013 LA Auto Show. Here BMW unveiled a production version of the i8 plugin hybrid. The look has not changed much since we first saw the concepts over the last several years. It also has some impressive numbers to talk about: total system power of 362 hp and 420 lb-ft, up to 94 MPG, 4.4 second 0-60 MPH sprint, and 1.5 hours for full recharge. 231 of the horsepower come from a 3-cylinder TwinPower turbocharged gasoline engine. That is a mean little motor with specific output of 154 hp per liter.
The i8 promises to be a great performer with BMW steering feel and handling characteristics. It can go over 310 miles between fill-ups / recharge, so it will not leave you stranded. Sounds good? The 2014 BMW i8 goes on sale in summer of 2014 with a starting price of $135,700 (without destination charges and before federal/state incentives).
