Chevrolet has announced that an “updated” 2016 Chevy Equinox will be shown at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show (with press days Feb 12th and 13th, 2015).
Chevrolet did not release much detail or any images on the new Equinox yet. Our guess is that the front-end styling of the updated crossover will continue the design language established by the 2015 Chevy Trax and the Chevy Colorado.
The current model has been a strong seller (including a good chunk of fleet sales as well). It has a roomy interior for five and a large cargo area. However, it’s getting long in the tooth. The current model is available with a choice of 2.4L four-cylinder (182 hp and 172 lb-ft) or a 3.6L direct-injected V6 (301 hp and 272 lb-ft). It’s available with either FWD or AWD and the 6-speed automatic is the only transmission.
Chevrolet will likely upgrade the interior, but they may not mess with the drive-train too much. The current four-cylinder motor and FWD deliver a good 32 MPG on the highway. Could a 2.0L turbo be in the Equinox future?
TFL team will be at the Chicago Auto Show press days, so stay tuned for Live broadcasts and detailed video and written coverage starting on February 11th.
