McLaren Automotive has announced the arrival of a new McLaren vehicle. The debut date is December 8, 2018 at 8:10 PM GMT. Unfortunately, McLaren has not revealed a whole lot else about their new supercar just yet. But I think we can do some more digging.
What we know
Well, we do know that this is the 2nd vehicle in McLaren’s Track25 business plan. Of course, the first vehicle to come from that plan was the McLaren Speedtail. If you don’t know much about McLaren’s big plan, you can read more in detail about it here. The short version is this: McLaren has come up with a £1.2bn ($1.5bn) plan to introduce 18 new cars by 2025. Plus, McLaren plans for every one of their sportscars and supercars to be a hybrid by 2025.
As for specifics about the model set to be revealed next month? Pretty much just the release date. However, I think that is a clue in and of itself.
Could it be Called the 810?
Many of McLaren’s cars feature a name with numbers in it. Three numbers, specifically. You have the 600LT, 540C, 570S, 570GT, 720S, 675LT, and 650S (plus convertible variants). I think that reveal time of 8:10 PM GMT is purposeful. In the past, the British automaker has revealed their cars at midnight. But, this one has a very specific time, with a number that would slot in their lineup rather nicely. The McLaren 810?
Will it have 810 horsepower?
The McLaren 720S is named that because it’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 makes 720 PS (or 710 horsepower). If that naming convention holds up, this upcoming McLaren could make 800 horsepower or more.
The other question about power revolves around the drivetrain. We know McLaren is going to continue making use of hybrid powertrains. Could this be one? We’ll just have to wait and see.
