The 2018 BMW M5 is a combination of incredible performance and surprising efficiency. Andre had a chance to walk around this German super sedan at the 2017 LA Auto Show and show you everything you need to know about the next M5.

Underneath the M5’s Hood Beats the Heart of a Giant
Lurking within the new 2018 BMW M5 is a punched-up version of the 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8. This new M5 cranks out 600 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. That monstrous engine routes power to all four wheels – a first for the M5 – through an 8-speed automatic transmission. However, BMW has made it so this M5 can send all of its power to the rear wheels for when you feel like doing a bit of drifting. Despite having a massively powerful V8, BMW managed to squeeze 26.9 MPG combined out of the new M5.

Big Power, Small Acceleration Times
600 horsepower means that this M5 will hit 60 MPH in just 3.2 seconds. As with all other M cars, BMW limits the top speed to 155 MPH. However, if you buy the M Driver’s Package, BMW lets you go as fast as 189 MPH – that’s speed to nearly cover a football field every second. That feature makes this M5 the quickest iteration ever! Even with the M5’s 4,255 pound bulk, it can sprint through the quarter-mile in 11.1 seconds.

Brace Yourself to Spend Big Bucks for a 2018 BMW M5
How much does all of this cost? Well, it certainly isn’t cheap. Starting price is $103,595, and you can go well up from there. Expect to see the 2018 BMW M5 in showrooms in Spring 2018.
