Porsche Panamera Wagon Confirmed, Heading for U.S. [News]

To call it a wagon might be an instant turn off to many Americans, so let’s call it something that sounds much sexier – the Panamera Shooting Brake. Yes indeed, a 5-door hatch version of Porsche’s sedan has been confirmed by the company – and in a plot twist most wouldn’t have predicted – it will eventually make its way to North America. According to Automotive News the second generation Panamera in shooting brake form is expected to go on sale in Europe in 2017, while the U.S. will likely have to wait until 2018. For an idea of what it might look like, check out the Panamera Sport Turismo concept vehicle pictured above.

“We have to have some patience for [the wagon] to arrive in the U.S.,” Klaus Zellmer, CEO of Porsche Cars North America stated. “But we are confident that this car will be well received here, despite the fact that this country doesn’t really like hatchbacks or wagons.”

Zellmer also told Automotive News that a five-seat version of the Panamera is being considered as it has been something U.S. dealers have been asking for. The second-generation 2017 Panamera will make its debut at the Paris Auto Show in September but we were able to catch one on camera testing in the high elevations of the Rocky Mountains.
