The 2016 Maxima makes its world debut at the 2015 New York Auto Show and comes out swinging with 300 horsepower and estimated 30 MPG on the highway. Nissan even announced the starting price of $32,410. The company maintains that the redesigned Maxima is still the “4-door Sports Car”.
Nissan upgraded the 3.5L VQ-series V6 engine with 60% new parts for boost of 10 horsepower over the outgoing model. They are also shooting for a 15% improvement in fuel economy to get the 30 MPG highway number. The CVT transmission has also been tweaked with “performance oriented” qualities. The overall chassis is now 15% stiffer as well.
The outgoing Maxima definitely had the sporty character. Can the all-new model push the 4-door Sport Car claim even further? We reserve judgement until we can drive it.
The 2016 Nissan Maxima will go on sale in just a few months (summer of 2015).
In the meantime, check out the 2015 New York Auto Show one take video of the new Maxima.
