Meet Tim Samaras and his storm chasing pick-up.
He’s what you might call an extreme adventure researcher.
Like so many of us he has a regular day job, but in the spring (when the weather across the Tornado belt of the United States turns stormy) he goes out to hunt down tornadoes. You may know him as he’s part of the Discovery Channel’s Storm Chaser crew and hit TV show as team leader of Team Twistex.
Unlike some of the other storm chasers Tim sees no need to drive his specially built storm chasing pick-up into the heart of a tornado. Instead, he chases tornadoes to study them and to determine what can be learned from instruments placed directly in the path of the oncoming monster twisters.
But that doesn’t mean that he and his team don’t get within a whiskers length from some of the deadliest storms in America.
