Cooking directions for the Chevy Volt: Bake at 175 degrees until done

Volt-Hot-Soak General Motors has put the Chevy Volt into the Oven to bake it until it is completely done.

OK, so maybe the oven is GM's Desert Proving Grounds in Arizona, and the baking is being done to test the car's ability to handle the extreme heat of Arizona in the summer.

Engineers "bake" the Volt in the summer Arizona sun up to 175 degrees and guess what they do next? If you guessed turn on the car and the air conditioner…you are correct.

“The car performed well,” said senior durability test engineer Steve Pratt in a recent press release. “The air conditioner cooled things off from our interior temperature of 138 degrees down to a nice comfortable temperature for driving.”

According to the GM :

"Engineers use a towing dynamometer – which simulates endless hill and mountain climbing anywhere from a 2 to 10 percent grade – to put stress and strain on the Volt’s engine and chassis to determine how well it will perform while climbing a mountain at temperatures above 100 degrees F. "
