The 2019 Audi A6 gets a new engine and a tech upgrade
After the Audi A8’s reveal at the LA Auto Show last December and the 2019 A7’s reveal in Detroit this January, Audi’s march to revamp its sedan lineup continues. Now, at the New York Auto Show, we have the 2019 Audi A6. This sedan originally debuted in Geneva, but this is the first time we’re seeing it on our shores. Apart from taking on its larger sibling’s design, the new A6 has a new engine and a host of tech upgrades as well.
First, the new engine. Instead of the supercharged powerplants of older generations, there’s a new heart in the 2019 Audi A6. It’s a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 putting out 340 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Not content with just introducing the new engine, the A6 also adopts the 48-volt mild hybrid assist system from the larger A8 and A7 as well. Apart from propulsion, Audi has introduced a new damping system and a more direct steering setup.
The tech is where the 2019 Audi A6 has really seen an update. In the center console, there’s now two touch screens in place of the old rotary dial setup for the MMI infotainment system. Again, that’s tech borrowed from the A6’s larger siblings. The interface controls more like a smartphone, where you can take certain functions and make them favorites, so they’re always easily accessible. The 2019 Audi A6 also processes voice commands through pre-stored data in the cloud. Audi’s MMI system does support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
We expect the 2019 Audi A6 to go on sale later this year. There’s been no specific mention of pricing yet, but we should have that information closer to launch. Stay tuned for more updates!
