Is the Family-Hauling 2018 Audi Allroad Quicker Than a Two-Seater 2006 Porsche Boxster? [Video]

It’s a shocking result as we mash up the Audi Allroad wagon against the two-seater Porsche Boxster!

In the main, the Audi Allroad and Porsche Boxster serve two diametrically opposed purposes. The 2018 Audi Allroad is a higher-riding, off-road capable family wagon. Porsche’s Boxster, on the other hand, is a purpose-built, mid-engined, two-seater sports car that places balance and dynamics above out-and-out practicality. You wouldn’t normally see these two cars side-by-side at the lights and go, “Hmm, I wonder who would win in a drag race?” Now, though, you don’t have to ask, because we have the answer for you in today’s video!

Apart from both cars being German, there’s one other common factor. They both produce around 250 horsepower. In one corner, we have the 2018 Audi Allroad, which puts out 252 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque from a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. Representing the lightweight roadster is a 2006 Porsche Boxster, which makes 240 horsepower and 199 lb-ft of torque from its 2.7-liter, mid-mounted Boxer engine. However, while the Audi does have more power and torque, it’s also half a ton heavier than the Porsche.

So, which one do you think will win in a drag race? There are a few wild cards in the mix. In addition to the weight difference, the Audi has a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic. Meanwhile, the Boxster sports a 5-speed manual. The Allroad is turbocharged, while the Boxster isn’t, and that could mean a wide margin in a straight line dash for glory. Check out the video above to see which car comes out on top.

2018 Audi Allroad vs. 2006 Porsche Boxster: The results

Depending on your perspective coming into this mashup, the results may have shocked you. The Allroad can leverage its power advantage thanks to its Quattro all-wheel drive system, and its turbocharged engine. Andre completed a 0-60 acceleration run in a brisk 5.89 seconds. Audi quotes the Allroad’s acceleration time at 5.9 seconds at sea level. Even with a 1,000-pound weight disadvantage, the Audi triumphed over the Porsche in this Germanic mashup drag race.

The Porsche, while lighter and more balanced for track use than the Audi Allroad, came in slower. Its best run clocked in at 7.91 seconds, more than two seconds behind the Audi. Nevertheless, it’s a fun comparison, and in a world where manual transmissions are becoming scarce, there’s some fun to be had in rowing your own gears.
