Could this be the first OEM special edition Wrangler JL model?

The brand new Jeep Wrangler JL gets its first special edition.

Before the previous generation Jeep Wrangler JK bowed out this year, it racked up quite a few special editions. The Rubicon Recon, the Altitude, the Golden Eagle and the Willys, to name just a few. Now, the new Jeep Wrangler JL appears to have its first special model, as reported by JL Wrangler Forums.

An eagle-eyed forum member spotted what looks like a JL Unlimited MOAB edition on a car hauler outside Auburn Hills, Michigan, just a few minutes away from FCA’s headquarters. Now, JL Wrangler Forums did not confirm this was an OEM special edition. There wasn’t enough information at time of writing to conclusively say whether it was a factory stock JL, or if it was an aftermarket assembled JL Unlimited. That said, this MOAB edition Wrangler JL has a few goodies that stand it out from a standard Wrangler.

This particular model sports matte black five-spoke wheels, factory steel bumpers akin to the Rubicon, and black tow hooks, for a start. Of course, the MOAB edition decal marks it out as something different. The car also has BFGoodrich KM2 Mud Terrains fitted, as well as diffeerent style rock rails. A gray Jeep decal sets it apart from the standard Wrangler’s badging as well.

Another eagle-eyed forum member – mind you, these folks are good at digging up Jeep info way before FCA ever announces it – did spot a MOAB hood decal in the FCA parts catalog. The style looks identical to what we see on this Wrangler, so that could be a strong indication.

Given Jeep’s strong connection to Moab, it makes sense to kick off the JL’s special editions with such a model. Stay tuned to TFLcar.com for more!
