Two American automobile companies saw double-digit increases in sales in their subcompact crossover models in September.
The Chevrolet Trax jumped to the number one position with the most sales for September with 8,526 vehicles sold, or a 21.9 percent increase over August’s sales of 6,997, September sales figures showed. When looking at the number of vehicles sold in September 2015 and September 2016, the Trax also saw a 38.9 percent increase.
The Buick Encore also had a double-digit increase of 24.9 percent, selling 7,297 vehicles in September compared to August’s figures of 5,843. In August, the Encore was the fifth highest selling car in that category, but the sales increases for September has the vehicle as the third highest selling car during that month.
Comparing the number of vehicles sold in September 2015 to September 2016, the Encore saw a 29.7 percent increase for that month in 2016.
On the flip side, there were several compact crossovers that saw a double-digit decrease in sales in September.
The MINI Countryman saw a 21.4 percent decrease in sales in September at 1,031 vehicles compared to August’s figures of 1,312.
The Jeep Renegade saw a 17.2 percent decrease in sales in September with 6,776 vehicles sold compared to August’s figures of 8,181 vehicles, September sales figures showed.
The Nissan Juke also took a hit in September, selling 17.1 percent less vehicles at 947 compared to August’s sales of 1,143 vehicles.
Although not a double-digit decrease, the Honda HR-V saw a 9.6 percent decrease in sales with 6,853 vehicles sold in September compared to August’s 7,580 vehicles sold. However, when looking at figures in September 2015 compared to September 2016, the HR-V actually had an increase of 48.7 percent in sales when comparing the two months.
When looking at year to date sales figures from 2015 to 2016, the Mazda CX-3 saw a 587.2 percent increase in sales, the Fiat 500 saw a 122 percent increase, the Jeep Renegade saw a 112 percent increase and the Honda HR-V saw a 99.4 percent increase, sales figures showed.
When looking at the number of vehicles sold to date in 2016, the Jeep Renegade sold the most in the subcompact crossover segment with 77,252 vehicles followed by the Subaru Crosstrek with 68,810 vehicles.
