The 2015 Mercedes GL63 AMG is one of those machines that laughs in the face of mother nature and the laws of physics. It combines the luxurious and spacious interior for up to seven, with the performance of a high-end sports sedan. Oh yea, it is also rated to tow a maximum of 7,500 lbs.
Motivation comes from a 5.5L biturbo V8 that chucks out 550 horsepower @ 5,250 rpm and 560 lb-ft @ 2,000 rpm. The 7-speed AMG-tuned automatic transmission sends the power to the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. Mercedes says it’s capable of a 4.8 seconds 0-60 MPH sprint. Naturally, we wanted to find out just how quickly this nearly 3-ton vehicle is (with curb weight of 5,754 pounds in base form).
All this opulence and performance does not come cheap. This GL63 AMG rings the cash register at $126,870. This price includes everything, including the AIRMATIC suspension with adjustable damping, AMG brakes, 21-inch wheel, and the Bang & Olufsen sound system. It is EPA rated at 13 MPG in the city, 17 MPG on the highway, and 14 MPG combined.
