This is the second installment of the TFLcar Track Week video review series. Track Week is where we take every day cars and put them through their paces at the High Plains Raceway in Colorado. TFLcar team attended the annual RMDE event put on by the RMAP association, and Roman wanted to see how these cars compare to each other on the race track. So, we mounted the cameras and the SoloDL GPS data recorder, and Roman went out in search of the best lap times.
The series started yesterday with the Juke NISMO. Today we have the 2014 Mazda6 sedan, as it was able to lap the HPR circuit faster than the Juke. Mazda completely redesigned the Mazda6 for the 2014 model year. It’s now using Mazda’s efficient SkyActiv drivetrain and wearing sexy new sheet metal. In this case, it’s using a 2.5-liter high compression four cylinder engine that produces 184 horsepower and is rated at 26/38 MPG with the 6-speed automatic transmission. Mazda6 feels well balanced on the track, although it could use some more power, especially at a mile above sea level. Interestingly, this mid-size sedan has less power and weighs more than the Juke NISMO. However, it’s lower center of gravity and a solid chassis helps it go faster.

The 2014 Mazda6 was 9th fastest around the track. However, this was not a comparison of direct competitors. The Mazda6 was up against some serious contenders, including: Fiat Abarth Cabrio, Ford Focus ST, Camaro SS 1LE, and the GT-R.
