Photo Gallery: Design Vision GTI in the Flesh

GTI_Design_Vision_reveal_1200Yesterday we showed you the sketches of the Volkswagen Design Vision GTI, a 503 horsepower monster made just for the annual German car fest called Wörthersee in Reifnitz, Austria. Here we have a slight update, plus a few actual photos of the reveal of the Design Vision GTI, like the shot above, as well as more “solid-works” style images. Mark Gillies, VW Manager of Product and Technology who provided background for the prior post, also updates TFL Car with the following insights:

Tread is 235/35 ZR20 front, 275/35 ZR20 rear, Pirelli PZeros.

If VW wanted to mass produce the car they could (they won’t), since it’s made entirely out of the new MQB platform (VW’s new system design program that can accommodate an incredibly wide array of chassis to ease construction bottlenecks).

The DSG transmission is the seven speed DQ500, which was designed to handle torque up to 442 lb. ft., and though the Design Vision car throws down with 413 lb. ft. the DQ500 wouldn’t have required much, if any retooling for this application.

The AWD system is 4Motion, and Gillies speculates that it is at least related to the present system that in the U.S. we only get in the R version of the Golf. Unsurprisingly the car gets heavier; the curb weight of the MKVII GTI is 2,941 pounds; the Design Vision GTI is 3,307 pounds.
