March 23, 1901 set the beginning of Chicago’s entry in the automotive show world. This year’s Chicago show marks its 105th anniversary. Doors will open to the press this week on February 7th-8th and then to the general public on February 9th-18th. The windy city plays host to the largest show in the U.S. in floor space size and attendance. This show claims nearly 1.2 Million square feet of automotive displays, so bring your most comfortable shoes!
It is noteworthy that a wide range of cars will be debuting in this year’s show. Everything from new current models, to pickup trucks and new concepts will be showcased. Excitement has been building because this year’s show will showcase the world wide reveal of the all-new 2014 Toyota Tundra which adds to the list of new pickups revealed this year. The 2014 Chevrolet Cruze Diesel will be an added engine option for Chevrolet’s successful small car. Ram will unwrap several new models for the commercial market. Chrysler will have two new versions of sporty versions of current models, the 2013 Dodge Challenger R/T Redline and the 2013 Dodge Dart Mopar. Many of the auto manufactures will be introducing sportier versions of current models..
On the concept side of things, KIA Cross GT is going to be a show grabber. Cross is a step up from Sorento and is considered a premium SUV packed with technology. Honda EV-STER CONCEPT is a very innovative version of an electric car featuring such attributes as a 78hp motor with a claimed range of 99 miles. This rear wheel drive two-seater is claimed to scoot 0-60 in about 8 seconds. On the luxury side of concepts Lexus is rolling out a LF-LC Hybrid concept coupe. The Lexus will use an advanced Hybrid Drive combined with front engine rear wheel drive chassis.
These automobiles are just a fraction of what there is to see and explore at this huge event. There will also be many of the new cars and concepts that were revealed last month in Detroit.
