The 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-in can travel for about 12 miles using only electricity. That is if the driver doesn’t exceed 62 miles per hour and/or does not floor the accelerator.
This means that the while technically the car can be driven in EV (electric vehicle) mode around town, it often and very quickly switches to standard hybrid mode making it drive and consume fuel like a standard Prius.
Of course this means that the owner will still get 50 MPG but not the 95 MPGe that is possible in pure EV mode.
Check out this speedy tech demo as we show you what makes the Prius Plug-in special and more expensive than a classic Prius.
