The Geneva Debut of the Handsome 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan

2011 Tiguan TFL Geneva

The 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan is a stunner. Roman Mica (TFLCar.com Sherpa) was seen at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show winking at the 2012 Tiguan in a “come hither” way. As it is a complete remodel of what is already a good crossover, Volkswagen kept everything that was good and built on what was so-so.

Making a return, the 2.0-liter, turbocharged engine is standard. Volkswagen has made some modifications and it now gets better gas mileage. According to Volkswagen, “the 2012 Tiguan is expected to deliver noteworthy highway fuel economy improvements from 25 miles per gallon highway to an estimated 29 miles per gallon highway.” – – Volkswagen AG

There are other upgrades including interior and technological changes – but there is no corresponding interior photo provided by Volkswagen. That’s okay with me because I’m stricken by the chiseled exterior. Truly, the new Volkswagen design language is speaking loud and clear with the 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan.

If you were curious, the headlight surrounding LEDs are daytime running lights.

According to Volkswagen “(The) Tiguan’s European tuned suspension enables precise handling, while also providing a smooth and compliant ride.” – – Volkswagen AG. The old one certainly had European ride characteristics, so I’m curious about this new setup.

It all boils down to that beautiful exterior for me. It looks like a Touareg and a Jetta had an affair and the snappy 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan was the result. That’s a compliment. As it stands, we can only hope the 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan drives as good as it looks.

No word on pricing yet, but Volkswagen expects to have the 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan in dealerships in the fall of 2011.
