Tesla is aiming to establish dominance over the Porsche Taycan.

Ever since the Porsche Taycan Turbo blasted through the Nürburgring with a fast lap time of 7:42, Tesla has been rather vocal about beating it. So far, we have heard many about reports of a specially prepared Tesla Model S trouncing the Porsche record with a 7:20 blast.

Tesla speculated that this prototype Model S may go as fast as 7:05. That’s a bold statement, and one that many remain skeptical about. Porsche fans are livid by the mere speculation that Tesla may outgun the all-new Porsche Taycan Turbo.

Fear not Porsche fans

In this video, which was taken by Talea Media, Porsche fans get a little bit of comeuppance. It clearly shows the same Tesla Model S that’s pushing for the lap record, broken down on the track. As the Tesla is about to be towed; we see it slowly lapped by a Porsche Taycan Turbo.

Yep, it’s a bit embarrassing. When you calculate the stresses of lapping the Nürburgring, a vehicle malfunction isn’t surprising. Some vehicles have caught fire after a lap or so while others have endured terrible crashes. All in the name of a faster lap.

This is by no means the end of the challenge.

Fans on both sides are pointing fingers at the other side for not playing by the rules. Porsche fans point out that the Tesla Model S running the track is a pre-production prototype. It’s a new triple-motor vehicle that’s not available to the public, yet. Porsche says they will hit the track again in an even faster version of the Taycan in the near future – presumably to beat Tesla.

Tesla fans say this is sour grapes from Porsche and that they are putting a vehicle on the track to save face after bragging far too much about their short-lived accomplishment. Either way, the next few months will see some screaming fast EV records fall.

Here’s the video. You can skip to 35 seconds to see the flatbed pull up. A few seconds later, a Porsche Taycan passes the broken down Tesla as it is about to be loaded.
