It’s another new Lotus concept, but this one has a twist.

If you’re going to go for something, you may as well go all out. That’s what Lotus envisions, at least, with the Type 130 concept. It’s the brand’s first all-new model in more than a decade, and it’s a fully-electric hypercar. The company gave this first glimpse of its upcoming model at the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show.

There isn’t much we can actually see with this concept, but Lotus said the car is in the “advanced stages of development”. Beyond this first peek, the Lotus Type 130 will be revealed later this year. Chinese automaker Geely, which also owns Volvo, took over Lotus in 2017. From there, it backed this project to produce it in England. According to an earlier Autocar article, Lotus may price this performance leviathan around $2.6 million. Yikes.

That takes the Type 130 well out of the range of most other Lotus models. Then again, this is not supposed to be an ordinary Lotus, like a new Evora. Although Lotus has not revealed any technical details, we hope it has the performance to match that price tag. Company CEO Phil Popham did say: “Type 130 will be the most dynamically accomplished Lotus in our history. It marks a turning point for our brand and is a showcase of what we are capable of and what is to come from Lotus.”
