Fisker Promises A 300 Mile, Sub-$40k Electric Crossover That You Can Buy In 2021

Henrik Fisker of Fisker Inc. announced the impending arrival of a brand-new electric SUV. The announcement featured the above teaser image, showing what could be the front fascia of Fisker’s second production vehicle after the ill-fated Fisker Karma. Originally, the EMotion, a new electric luxury sedan was supposed to be Fisker’s 2nd model. However, Fisker already announced that the EMotion would be delayed past it’s original promised release date in 2019. We will have to wait until the second half of 2021 (when the SUV is set to come out) for a new Fisker model.

What We Know

The electric manufacturer didn’t release a ton of information about this upcoming electrified SUV. However, we did learn a few vital tidbits. First of all, the SUV will cost less than $40,000 dollars, according to Mr. Fisker. Second, the SUV will be powered by an 80kWh battery. This is directly connected to the next point of interest, regarding range. Supposedly, this SUV will have a range “close to 300 miles”. This base model will come with AWD as standard, plus a roof that can be opened up completely.

Competition

Tesla just unveiled their sub-$40,000 electric crossover, the Model Y. Though, the base model (i.e. the one that will actually cost under $40,000) has a range of just 230 miles. If Fisker can accomplish an SUV with that pricetag, and significantly better range than the Model Y, they could have a winner on their hands.
