The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross: Tiny Crossover heads to the 2017 Geneva Motor Show

Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross

Very little is known about the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, which will debut at the 2017 Geneva Auto Show on March 7th. It is a compact crossover that will either be positioned just under or just over the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. While the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross name is evocative of the sleek, sporty car, the look is future SUV.

It may have a small displacement four-cylinder or, perhaps a stronger (possibly turbocharged?) 1.2-liter 3-cylinder similar to the engine currently used in the Mitsubishi Mirage. It’s a pretty good bet it will get the CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) as its main transmission. This is all speculation. All we know for sure is what Mitsubishi announced below.

“Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) will debut its new compact SUV at the 87th Geneva International Motor Show*1 scheduled for March 7 through 19, 2017 in Geneva, Switzerland. The new compact SUV will be added to MMC’s crossover SUV lineup which currently comprises the ASX*2 compact SUV, and the Outlander and Outlander PHEV midsize SUVs. Styling features include a wedge-shape belt line, a forceful character line running through the side, a more steeply raked rear window, and long wheelbase with short rear overhang proportions. These produce a sharp and active looking coupe SUV shape that represents MMC’s vehicles. Together with heavily flared front and rear fenders, these elements create a dynamic and sporty design that engenders the powerful image of a stocky track athlete.” – – Mitsubishi Media

Some have suggested that the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will have high performance components from the Evo X, others state that it will be quick, but super efficient. Either way, this vehicle is being kept in a shroud of mystery. The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross may point the direction this company will follow.
