2016 Subaru WRX STI vs VW Golf R Mashup Review (Part 2 of 2) [Video]

In the second part of this mashup review, TFL gets back behind the wheel of the Volkswagen Golf R to see how it compares to the Subaru WRX STi.

Of course, this was originally supposed to be part of a three-part mashup involving the much loved BMW M2, but the computer gods were not kind and the file was corrupted for that portion of the video.

Golf-R Red

The Golf R is nothing new to TFL, being featured in our Hot or Not Series. This car is the ultimate sporty golf. Featuring the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that is in the GTI, this Golf R differentiates itself from the GTI by having 292 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. Perhaps most importantly, the Golf R features VWs 4-Motion all wheel drive to up the performance factor even further. This model came with the 6-speed manual transmission, although the Golf R can be had with VWs fantastic DSG dual clutch transmission.

Especially when considering this is the sportiest car VW sells, the Golf R’s 22 mpg city and 31 mpg highway is nothing short of stunning. At an as-tested price of $32,270.00 the Golf R seems like a bargain compared to the other cars in this mashup review.
